Florida Department of Business Professional and Regulation
Need a license:
Perform inspections of the structural, roofing, electrical, plumbing, and
mechanical work on a house or building being constructed or renovated,
regardless of compensation
Does not need a License:
Inspect a home for real estate transaction purposes, regardless of compensation. (A license will be required on July 1, 2010.)
FloridaIn 2007, Florida passed a new licensing law for home inspectors to take effect in 2010. Here is a link to the current law. Senate Bill 2234, enacted June 27, 2007 as Chapter 468, Part XV, Florida Statutes, provides for licensure and regulation of home inspectors. Chapter 468, Part XV, Florida Statutes, became effective July 1, 2010, and provides that the home inspector licensing program will be administered by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. There is not a Board of Home Inspectors. The department administers the licensure and regulation functions for this profession.
