Background Verified Inspector (BVI) Program

ASHI is pleased to announce the launch of the Background Verified Inspector (BVI) program.  Our program will allow current ASHI Members to voluntarily undergo a criminal background check using Sterling Talent Solutions.

Some benefits of becoming a Background Verified Inspector (BVI):
  • Give your clients peace of mind when booking an inspection
  • Receive a BVI digital badge for your website and email signature
  • Set yourself apart from the competition

How to get started:

1. Click on the link below to be redirected to Sterling Talent Solutions website, and fill out the background check application.  There is a $27.25 USD* one time application fee paid to Sterling Talent Solutions at the time of the background check.

2. Once ASHI receives the report from Sterling Talent Solutions, a digital badge will be issued to you via email and an updated ASHI Membership badge will be mailed to you with the incorporation of the BVI logo on it.

3. The BVI logo use is good for two years. After the two years is up, you will be required to resubmit the background check application.

Please note the report may contain information regarding your criminal history and may also contain other background information about you.

A conviction may not prohibit you from obtaining membership in ASHI. Each application will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the Membership Committee.

If you have any questions please email us at

*The cost of the background check can fluctuate based on the state and county the check is being conducted in.

Sterling Talent Solutions (Sterling) provides the criminal background information for ASHI’s Background Verified Inspector® Program (BVI®). ASHI urges consumers to contact Sterling to understand the details, limitations, and conditions of the criminal background information that Sterling provides.  Sterling provides criminal background information at two-year intervals.  ASHI does not investigate an inspector’s background, and it does not evaluate an inspector’s technical qualifications to perform an inspection. ASHI, its officers, directors and employees assume no liability whatsoever to any party for the inspector and the inspection.
